People love getting loud on the Fourth of July. People’s pets hate it.Last year, the Humane Society for Southwest Washington took in “dozens of dogs that ran away from their homes in response to loud noises caused by fireworks” on the Fourth of July, according to a statement. This year, HSSW is hosting at Protect Your Pet event in advance of that day.Protect Your Pet is set for 4 to 7 p.m. today at the HSSW facility at 1100 N.E. 192nd Ave., Vancouver. Offered in partnership with Good Neighbor Vet, the event offers microchipping and licensing that can help reunite lost pets with their owners.Plus, the Human Society admissions department will be open until 4 p.m. on the big day itself, July 4, to help care for animals that are lost or have run away.The Humane Society offers licensing and microchipping from 12 noon to 6 p.m. every Tuesday through Sunday.
