Since the debut of the Tata H5X SUV concept, or the Tata Harrier as it is now called, there has a substantial amount of anticipation regarding the SUV. Touted as one of the biggest debuts in the Indian car market, it now seems people are slightly getting restless for this premium SUV to go on sale in the market. With a number of reports surfacing about Tata Motors unofficially starting bookings for the Harrier SUV for a Rs 50,000 token amount, we sadly state that this is unfortunately not true. This was in response to the certain invoice copy image uploaded on the internet which showed a certain Tata Harrier BSIV model booking for Rs 50,000.In regards to those reports, Tata Motors has clarified that bookings for the Harrier have not opened yet officially. In a statement from Tata Motors spokesperson, they clarified, “There is a lot of excitement for the Tata Harrier. We have learned from this incident. The dealer was compelled to take the booking due to the customer insisting on the same, to be among the first owners of the Tata Harrier. We thank our customers for their trust in the brand and we wish to assure them that the Tata Harrier will arrive in India, early in 2019. TML will publicise widely when we officially open bookings for the Harrier. The Company has directed the dealer to refund the entire amount to the customer as the official booking for the Tata Harrier has not yet commenced.”In regards to the launch, Tata is expected to launch the much-awaited SUV by early 2019. The Harrier SUV will be built on the Omega platform which is a derivative of the L550 platform from the stables of Jaguar Land Rover for the Discovery Sport.advertisementAlso, the Harrier is also slated to share the wheelbase from the Discovery Sport which is 2,741mm and will be 4×4 capable like the Discovery Sport and will come with a proper 4×4 drivetrain. Considering its Tata, we can very well expect the final production spec model to be very close to the original concept, complete with high-set headlamps with LED DRLs. Other styling similarities include wheel arches, front and rear armrests, slim headlamps which are in accordance to their Impact Design 2.0 language. The Harrier is slated to feature a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre 4-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine sourced from Fiat Chrysler with a 4-wheel drive system which will be developed by Tata. This is the same engine which does the duty on the Fiat Chrysler Jeep Compass. Transmission duties are tipped to be a 6-speed manual, and a ZF-sourced 9-speed automatic, with added driving modes. The Harrier has been spotted quite a number of times testing on Indian roads and its no surprise that we are waiting for the orange bomb to drop on the affordable premium SUV market in India.
